State Patrol ID's Man Killed In Chisago County Rollover

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a 29-year-old man from just north of the Twin Cities died Wednesday after swerving to miss a deer on Interstate 35 in Chisago County.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim Thursday as Joseph A. Kelley of Harris, which is just north of North Branch.

Authorities were called to a one-vehicle crash at about 5:22 a.m. Wednesday on I-35 near milepost 51. Kelley was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger southbound on I-35 when he swerved to avoid a deer in the lane. The vehicle then slid sideways into the median and rolled several times, ejecting him from the vehicle.

The State Patrol said Kelley ended up in the northbound lane of I-35 and was hit by another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, but it's not clear if he was killed before or after getting hit by the vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle involved was not hurt.
