MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said an 81-year-old Monticello man died Tuesday when his vehicle went off the road in Wright County, went into a ditch and hit a tree.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle crash at about 1:53 p.m. Tuesday near the area of 127th Street NE and 120th Street NE in Monticello. When authorities arrived, they learned that a 2004 Jeep Wrangler was headed southbound of 127th Street NE when it left the road, went into a ditch and hit a tree.

Authorities said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as William Charles Papke of Monticello. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating what led up to the crash.
