Math, Science Enthusiasts Heading To 'U'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Opportunities to get children excited about two of the big subjects in school don't come around every day.
That's why you may want to take them to the University of Minnesota this Saturday for the U's Math and Science Family Fun Fair.
Among the 30-plus attractions at the fair will include robot demonstrations, a place to make glow-in-the-dark jewelry, a night sky display at the ExploraDome, and an opportunity for kids to "make" their own earthquakes.
There will also be demonstrations of air pressure on a 55-gallon steel drum, and plenty of explosions and flames.
"This event is for families with kids of all ages, especially kids in kindergarten through sixth grade, who will have a chance to see the excitement that a career in science, engineering and mathematics provides," said Dorothy Cheng, outreach coordinator for the U's College of Science and Engineering.
The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday at the Coffman Memorial Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Also, 1,000 kids will receive free U of M backpacks.
