'U' Student Robbed At Home Near Campus

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are investigating yet another armed robbery of a University of Minnesota student. This time, it happened around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 11th Avenue SE and 8th Street SE.

Minneapolis Police say the student was arriving home from work and was on the porch of his residence when the suspect approached him and asked to use his cell phone.

When the student refused, the suspect pointed a silver handgun at him and demanded his valuables.

The suspect took off with the victim's wallet, cell phone and laptop, fleeing the scene on foot.

The University of Minnesota Police and Minneapolis Police responded but were unsuccessful in finding the suspect.

No one was injured in the incident.

The suspect is described as a black man, between the ages of 21 and 25, approximately 5-foot-10 to 6-feet-tall, with a medium build. Police say he had dark hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a hooded black coat and was carrying a silver handgun.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police tip line at 612-692-8477.
