Working For The Weekend: Entertainment Best Bets
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — As we get ready for the weekend, we want to help you get ready as well. After you’ve had your fill of turkey and stuffing, get up and get moving with one of these weekend events.
Rice Park Tree Lighting
On Saturday, head to Rice Park for the lighting of a 65-foot holiday tree decorated with 15,000 LED lights. The ceremony includes entertainment by the cast the Ordway’s “Wizard of Oz.” The Ordway will be open for folks to warm up with apple cider and cookies. The Rice Park tree lighting is from 5 to 6 p.m.
Rice Park WinterSkate
After you’ve taken in that enchanting scene, cross the street to the grand opening of Wells Fargo WinterSkate outdoor ice rink at Landmark Plaza. Winterskate is open to the public, with the grand opening at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. If skating’s not your thing, listen to the Wells Fargo Choir or watch the experts from the St. Paul Figure Skating Club.
Finally, a program for kids but designed for parents. Moms and dads, drop your kids off at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory so you can shop until you drop, kid-free. During the four-and-a-half hour event, kids will tackle a scavenger hunt, meet animals and play games. Pre-registration is required for Como Kids Club. It runs Black Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
