MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Vikings will honor their former center, Matt Birk, before the game against the Detroit Lions Sunday, the team announced Thursday.

Birk, who spent 11 seasons in Minnesota, will serve as an honorary captain for the Vikings.

He was originally drafted by the Vikings in the sixth round of the 1998 NFL Draft, earned Pro Bowl honors six times and capped his NFL career as a member of the Super Bowl XLVII Champion Baltimore Ravens.

Birk retired from the NFL following the 2012 season.
