MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The University of Minnesota is getting ready to host its first outdoor hockey game in modern history.

The top-ranked Gopher men’s team will host the 2014 Hockey City Classic on Friday at TCF Bank Stadium.

The outdoor doubleheader starts at 4:30 p.m. with the No. 1 Gopher women’s team talking on Minnesota State, Mankato, followed by the Minnesota men against Ohio State at 8:10 p.m.

Minnesota is 12-1-0 all-time against its new Big Ten Conference rival, including a streak of five-straight wins against the Buckeyes.

The Gophers are unbeaten in their last eight games, going 6-0-2.

Some 4,500 to 5,000 fans are expected for the game. The forecast calls for a chance of snow in the evening, with daytime highs expected to reach only 11 above.
