Klobuchar Visits U Of M To Highlight 'Kill Switch'

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- U.S. Sen Amy Klobuchar will visit the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis to discuss ways to increase student safety.

There were 25 reported robberies on campus during the fall semester, many of them targeting cell phones and laptop computers.

As students return to campus from winter break on Tuesday, Klobuchar will speak at Coffman Union, where she will highlight her proposed federal "kill switch" legislation, which would enable cell phone theft victims to render their phones inoperable to thieves and wipe their personal and financial information from the device.

Joining Klobuchar to discuss the spike in campus crime will be Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau and University of Minnesota Police Chief Greg Hestness.
