MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The woman who many long-time viewers of WCCO remember fondly as Carmen the Nurse has died. Mary Davies Orfield died on Friday, Feb. 7 at the age of 88.

Carmen the Nurse first appeared on WCCO-TV in 1954 in the popular children’s show “Axel’s Tree House.”

Her own show, “Carmen’s Cottage,” ran from 1966 until 1977.

Davies was inducted into the Pavek Museum’s Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2004.

A memorial service was scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Union Congregational UCC Church in St. Louis Park. Memorials were suggested for the Animal Humane Society.
