NEWPORT, Minn. (WCCO) – One person is dead after an apparent stabbing at a Newport business on Thursday afternoon, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s office.

Authorities responded to a report of a stabbing victim in need of medical assistance at Bailey Nurseries around 3:40 p.m.

The victim, who was an employee, eventually died. A suspect is in custody, and was injured in the incident.

On Thursday evening, Ryan McEnaney of Bailey Nurseries, Inc. offered his condolences to the victim’s family.

“Bailey Nurseries and the Bailey family is deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at our facility this afternoon,” McEnaney said. “Please join us in keeping his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
