Longtime GOP Lawmaker Holberg Won’t Run Again

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Mary Liz Holberg, a longtime Republican state representative from the Twin Cities suburb of Lakeville, says she won’t run for re-election.

A House GOP press aide confirms Monday that Holberg announced her plans over the weekend at a district Republican convention. Holberg did not immediately return a call seeking details about her decision.

Holberg was elected to the House in 1998, making her one of the most senior Republicans in that chamber. She is a one-time chair of the influential House Ways and Means Committee, which produces the state budget, and has also been an outspoken voice on privacy issues. She is well-liked and respected by colleagues from both parties.

Holberg is one of eight House lawmakers not running for re-election this year.
