Gov. Orders Flags Flown At Half Staff Monday To Honor Fallen Marine

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Gov. Mark Dayton ordered all U.S. and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings on Monday in honor of Lance Cpl. Caleb L. Erickson.

Erickson, who was born and raised in Waseca, Minn., was killed in action on Feb. 28 while serving in the Marines in Afghanistan, state officials said.

He was 20 years old.

After Erickson graduated from Waseca High School in 2012, he joined the U.S. Marines and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Grace Lutheran Church will hold a celebration of Erickson's life on Monday.

According to the governor's office, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of a Minnesota personnel in the line of duty. Flags will be at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Monday.
