Movie Blog: Full List Of MSPIFF Titles Released

The words that I wrote last year still ring true, and thankfully earlier than usual this year: "There are few things sweeter than the sight of grass peeking through the snow after a long, hard winter season. But the opportunity to see new movies from world-class auteurs and local up-and-comers alike is among those things."

The (nearly) full list of titles for the 2014 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, which runs from April 3 through April 19, has just been released. You can see the full slate below.

This year's festival lineup represents more than 60 countries and also boasts three new festival partnerships with Northrup Auditorium's new Best Buy Theater, the Walker Art Center, and the MSP International Airport and the Airport Foundation. As with recent years, all five screens at the St. Anthony Main Theater will be devoted to the festival.

The opening night selection hasn't been announced just yet, as the Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul is still in negotiations for that berth. However, it has been announced the closing night selection will be The Skeleton Twins, directed by Craig Johnson and starring Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader as twins who live on opposite sides of the country until a reunion forces them to reevaluate their lives.

In addition to the usual festival programs covering documentaries, world cinema, American independents, Minnesota originals, and grungy late night offerings, there will also be festival spotlights on Latino cinema, food-centric fare, and "Brave Now World," about the ways digital communication has changed our way of life.

Additionally, there are new films from a number of auteurs who should be familiar indeed with anyone following international cinema, including Jean-Luc Godard and Peter Greenaway (with their 3-D triptych collaboration with Edgar Pêra), Jafar Panahi, Diane Kurys, Hong Sang-soo, Tsai Ming-Liang, Claude Lanzmann, Michael Winterbottom, Xavier Dolan, Tsui Hark, and François Ozon.
