MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 5-year-old Belle Plaine boy has been located safe after he went missing with his non-custodial mother Saturday afternoon, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

Scott County and Belle Plaine law enforcement officials confirmed that Nolen Joseph May-Schmitz was located and will be returned to his custodial father.

His mother, 29-year-old Nichole Marie May, was taken into custody by the Owatonna Police Department around 3 p.m.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Nichole May had a court order to visit her 5-year-old son Nolen Saturday afternoon.Once there, the two left in her blue Pontiac Grand Prix, police said.

"While this entire situation has been frightening for so many people," said Scott County Chief Deputy Dean Opatz, "We're relieved that the immediate crisis has been resolved without further conflict."

Authorities say the investigation into the abduction will continue.
