MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – While March Madness has many on the edge of their seats, Camp Bow Wow Burnsville wants people to get excited for another event, Mutt Madness.

Mutt Madness is an adoption event that was held at the Petco in Burnsville, Minn. and Apple Valley, Minn.

Dogs featured were from the rescue shelter Last Hope.

Organizers hope events like this will help educate people on the benefits of pet adoption.

“They’re getting a rescue versus getting a dog from a puppy mill. When you go to a pet store and you see ‘em in a cage and they’re in there all the time those are from puppy mill dogs. At least this way they’re out of there and they’re in a home,” Angela Stefani from Last Hope said.

In honor of National Puppy Day, taking place Sunday, Camp Bow Wow is also raising awareness about puppy mills.

They said the best way for you to take action against puppy mills is to “adopt… not shop.”
