MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said nobody was injured but a family might have lost some pets in a house fire Wednesday night in the north Twin Cities metro.

Crews were called to a house fire at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 8800 block of North Highway Drive in Lexington. Fire officials said the people inside the home smelled burning plastic before seeing flames on the deck.

When crews arrived, flames were showing through the roof and the porch was engulfed. Fire officials said strong winds fueled the fire and made it tough to put out.

Authorities said the people inside the home got out safely, but some pets might have been lost. The house appears to be a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
