Curiocity: Mike’s Mix — The Last Word
Every Friday, Mike Augustyniak picks up a new cocktail recipe from a local mixologist. Throughout March, Mike’s picking up some elegant recipes from the new Uptown spot Coup d’Etat. Jason DeRusha helped really shake it out with this week’s drink, which uses both gin and Chartreuse. If you’ve never tried the latter before, know that it is a heavenly liqueur.
2 oz. Gin
.75 oz. Chartreuse
.50 oz. fresh lime juice
.25 oz. maraschino liqueur
.25 oz. Simple Syrup
Shake all ingredients over ice. Double strain into chilled stemmed cocktail glass.
This is a more gin-forward cocktail, but you’ll also taste the Chartreuse, which is an unmistakably herbal, sweet flavor. There’s a reason why the bartender in Quentin Tarantino’s movie “Death Proof” calls it “the only liquor so good they named a color after it.”
About Coup d’Etat
“A smart and stylish restaurant and bar to seat 300 with large spaces for groups and both indoor/outdoor spaces. The food will have a modern approach with classic flavors,” says their website. Also, Jesse Held is teaching a bartending class at Coup d’Etat’s sister bar, Parlour.
