Excellent Educator: Osseo School District's Kevin Rassier

OSSEO, Minn. (WCCO) -- This morning, the WCCO Morning Show is honoring another excellent educator in the metro who has gone above and beyond to make a difference in students' lives.

Kevin Rassier is a band teacher for Osseo area schools, and like all of our excellent educators he does something a little extra for his kids.

WCCO's Edward Moody caught him working on Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" with his students, and in his own way Rassier is an iron man. After teaching for 32 years, you know he's tough and truly dedicated to young minds.

"I'm hoping the kids connect with my love for music and how I enjoy playing the instruments," he said.

Rassier works at several schools within the Osseo Area Schools district. He gets only 30 minutes a week with students, which he says isn't quite enough time to really keep their interests at full levels. So he makes CDs for them to play along with in their own practice.

Rassier says after more than 3 decades on the job he still gets excited when he sees what his students can accomplish over the course of a school year.

"They have band once a week for 30 minutes. So, going from nothing and getting them to the point where they can pick up a piece of music and play it on their own. It's very rewarding to see that growth during the year," he said.

Rassier was nominated by a parent of one of his students who is also a teacher, a huge compliment.

You can nominate a deserving educator by going to the WCCO Morning Show's Facebook page, telling us their name and why they should be WCCO's Excellent Educator of the week.
