Big Wood Brewery 1 Of Many Celebrating Minnesota Craft Beer Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It's a big week in Minnesota as the whole state celebrates craft beer and all the ways to enjoy it.

Breweries from the north shore to the southern part of the state are opening their doors for fun and sampling. It's all a part of the 10,000 Minutes of Minnesota Craft Beer.

At the Big Wood Brewery in White Bear Lake, they're combining one of the more fun games of the summer with their locally made beer: Four square. The owners at the brewery are hosting a four square tournament from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday while you can enjoy their craft beer.

Steve Meria with the Big Wood Brewery said the tournament will be outside, assuming the weather allows, but we went inside the taproom Wednesday morning to see what beers were flowing. Meria said the brewery is still very new as it opened in the middle of February. Big Wood Brewery is one of 57 in the state that is taking part in the 10,000 Minutes of Minnesota Craft Beer.

"Next week is the national week, so we really want to celebrate Minnesota this week with the 10,000 Minutes," Meria said.

Meria said the brewery has three main beers that will be available for the event. They include "Morning Wood," a coffee stout, "Bark Bite," which is their IPA and "Forest Fire," which is a smoked imperial rye ale. If you're looking for something else, the Big Wood Brewery has six other craft beers in its taproom.

The four square tournament is free to sign up.
