PILLAGER, Minn. (AP) — About 50 train cars carrying coal derailed in Cass County.

According to a Cass County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies received word about the derailment west of Pillager at about 11:50 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, deputies found the westbound BNSF Railway Company train had derailed affecting approximately 50 train cars carrying coal.

It did not involve any hazardous material and there were no injuries.

In a statement, Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said cleanup could last for several days and asked that citizens stay out of the area.

The sheriff’s department and the company are investigating.
