Dayton Has Until May 30 To Decide On Last Bills
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton is on the clock.
He has until May 30 to dispense with the remaining bills lawmakers sent him upon adjourning their legislative session. The last ones arrived Saturday, beginning a two-week window for him to act. He can sign bills, veto them or do nothing, which is called a pocket veto that kills the legislation.
Several of the 32 bills on Dayton's desk are high-profile. They include: authorization of $1.1 billion in construction projects, a roughly $283 million supplemental budget, a $103 million tax cut and legalization of medical marijuana. He also must decide whether to strip the Minnesota Lottery of certain online games.
Measures that have a spending component are also at risk of line-item vetoes, where Dayton can strike spending provisions one at a time.
