Being A Minnesota Candidate Requires Signup Soon

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Everybody who has ever wanted their name on an election ballot in Minnesota can take that step for the next two weeks.

Candidate filing for the 2014 campaign opens Tuesday and runs for two weeks. It covers anyone running for state and federal office. Some local candidates must file during the window, too, although some municipal offices and school district board seats have a filing period that starts in late July.

This year, the top races are for governor and U.S. Senate. Control of the 134-seat House is also at stake as are the offices of attorney general, secretary of state and auditor. Voters will also fill eight seats in Congress.

People who file and change their minds have until June 5 to pull their name from contention.
