1 Dead, 1 Hurt In Le Sueur County Memorial Day Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person died and another suffered non-life threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash in southern Minnesota on Monday, according to the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to the intersection of County Roads 114 and 24, just north of Le Center, at about 1:04 p.m. on a report of a crash involving two vehicles with injuries. When officers arrived, a 66-year-old St. Clair man was trapped inside one of the vehicles. Emergency personnel were able to get the man out of the vehicle, and he was taken by helicopter to North Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, a 66-year-old Le Center woman, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

During the investigation, officers learned the woman was driving westbound on County Road 24 when she collided with the man, who was headed south on County Road 114. The man, identified as Ernie Tietz, later died from his injuries in the crash.

What led up to the accident is still under investigation by the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol.
