Working For The Weekend: Entertainment Best Bets
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — It won’t be a long holiday vacation, but at the very least a Top 10 Weather Day is going to kick off your activities this coming weekend. (Yes, followed by rain, but let’s not dwell on that.) Here are some of Jason Matheson’s best entertainment bets to keep you busy.
If you loved the movie (and who didn’t?), now check out the musical version of Sister Act, playing at the Orpheum through Sunday. You should be aware that there are a number of differences from the movie, though. Primarily, there are no more of those Motown hits worked into the nuns’ routines. Instead, it’s an all new score. Read Curiocity’s Q&A with the actress playing Mother Superior, and our blogger’s review of the show here.
Crimes of the Heart
Another theatrical production to consider is at the Guthrie. Crimes of the Heart, a sometimes funny but sometimes dark tale of sisterhood, runs through June 14. The cast of this Pulitzer Prize-winning play is absolutely amazing.
Zen Box Izakaya
If you’re near the Guthrie this weekend, you may as well also check out one of my favorite spots for a nosh. Zen Box Izakaya on Washington Avenue serves Japanese comfort food, which basically means no sushi. That’s OK, though. It might give you the chance to be even more adventurous — try the octopus balls. Yes, you read that right.
