Mike's Mix: The Normandy Cocktail
Every Friday, Mike Augustyniak picks up a new cocktail recipe from a local mixologist. This Friday, Mike shares a recipe from the historical The Normandy Kitchen Café & Bar. This week's selection is the self-titled cocktail – The Normandy.
Ingredients
2 oz. Calvados
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1 tsp (or cube) of brown sugar
3 whole cranberries
2 thin slices of apple (Granny smith was used here)
Directions
Muddle cranberries, apple and brown sugar in a large glass; add ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Add simple syrup to taste – amount will vary depending on how tart the cranberries are. Garnish with a thin apple slice and three cranberries.
Taste Test
The cranberries, the apples and the brandy make this drink reminiscent of fall to me. But, last I checked, there aren't any rules as to when you can enjoy a fall taste. This one will need a different amount of simple syrup each time you make it, depending on how sweet or tart the cranberries are.
