Lake Minnetonka, Dutch Lake Cleared For Swimmers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has lifted the swimming advisory on Lake Minnetonka and Dutch Lake in Mound, Minn.

Residents of the city of Mound were warned to stay out of both lakes at the beginning of the month when heavy rains caused sewage water to be rerouted into drains.

According to the city of Mound, the heavy rains at the beginning of June overwhelmed the city's sewer system, which threatened to back up into people's homes.

With advice from the MPCA, the city rerouted the sewage system into storm drains, which eventually flow into the lakes.

The city tested the waters until bacteria levels returned to normal.
