Rains, High Water, Winds Damage Int’l Falls Resort

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Heavy rains have caused massive flooding and major damage at a popular resort in International Falls.

High water and intense winds ripped through the area near Rainy Lake in the last two days. It’s estimated at least 600 homes in that area are affected.

Phil Hart owns the Pine Tree Cove Resort on Lake Kabetogama. He says the damage to his docks alone is at least $50,000.

He says that Mother Nature has not been kind this year.

“Worst winter we’ve ever gone through, and now … just shocked,” Hart said.

The Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office reports water washed out some roads earlier this week, and about a dozen homeowners have barricaded their property with about 2,500 sandbags.
