MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Two people were robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot near the University of Minnesota’s West Bank campus early Tuesday morning.

Minneapolis Police say the crime occurred at about 2:20 a.m. in the parking lot of the Hard Times Café at 1821 Riverside Ave.

A U of M student and their friend were sitting in a car when a man approached and started talking to them. When the victims began to leave the lot, the suspect pulled out a small, silver semi-automatic handgun.

He took a wallet and a smartphone from the victims before fleeing in the direction of Cedar Avenue.

The suspect is described as a young black man who is about 19-year-old. He has a slight build and was wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Tip Line at 612-692-8477, and reference case number MP-14-214099.
