MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Lovers of the Great Minnesota Get-Together wait all year for a few select dates. One is undoubtedly the opening of the Minnesota State Fair. But a close second is most likely the day that new foods are announced.

That day has arrived.

This year, the Minnesota State Fair has added 28 new foods to their menu, meaning nearly 500 different food options will be available to consumers.

The fair wouldn't be complete without a pinch of salt. Thus, several new savory items have been added, including blue cheese & corn fritz, deep fried breakfast on-a-stick, a Caribbean-style lobster roll and chicken in the waffle.

There is also a slew of new desserts, such as the caramel apple ice cream, deep-fried buckeyes, a hot toasted waffle ice cream sandwich and SnoRibbons.

Of course, the list must include a new bacon-wrapped food feature. Enter the bacon-wrapped turkey leg – a roasted turkey leg draped in a layer of bacon.

And for those who are Gluten free, there is even a deep fried option for you. Sonny Spiral Spuds inside the food building is offering up a gluten and nitrate-free brat dipped in a homemade beer batter and deep-fried on a stick.

But the fair would not be complete without new foods that honor the Scandinavian culture and encapsulate the heart of Minnesota. Those very Minnesota-esque foods include the Breakfast Juicy Lulu, a play on the classic Juicy Lucy; Jell-O Salad Ice Cream, inspired by the Minnesota potluck desert; North Shore Pasta – Walleye Mac & Cheese, nothing says Minnesota like walleye.  Uff-da!

The entire list of new foods can be found on the Minnesota State Fair website.
