Expect Road Closures For Obama's Minnehaha Park Visit

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- President Obama's visit to a popular Minneapolis park Thursday will cause several road closures and parking restrictions.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreations Board says the president will visit Minnehaha Park for an event that's closed to the public.

The following roads will close starting at 8 a.m. Thursday: Godfrey Parkway, Minnehaha Parkway from 39th Avenue to the Godfrey Parkway roundabout, Minnehaha Avenue from 46th Street to the Godfrey Parkway roundabout and Minnehaha Park Drive to 54th Street.

Parking is not allowed within Minnehaha Park beginning Thursday at noon at any lot or metered parking space.

And the following Minnehaha Park facilities and trails will close at 8 a.m.: the park building, Sea Salt Eatery, the Minnehaha Dog Park, the north plateau playground, the Longfellow House and Garden, access to the Minnehaha Falls and all bike and pedestrian trails.

Access to the Minnesota Veterans Home will be restricted to 46th Avenue.

All restrictions will be lifted immediately after the event.
