Timberwolves Hire Ryan Saunders As Assistant Coach

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Tuesday they’ve added to Flip Saunders’ coaching staff, and the name should sound very familiar.

Ryan Saunders, Flip’s son, was named to the staff. He joins David Adelman, Sidney Lowe and Sam Mitchell. Ryan is a University of Minnesota graduate who also played basketball for the Gophers. He most recently spent five seasons as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards, where he was instrumental with scouting reports an analytics for their upcoming opponents.

Before coaching with the Wizards, Ryan Saunders spent one season as an assistant for the Gophers under Tubby Smith. He’s the co-founder of an analytical program, called Gametime Concepts, that’s focused on in-game analysis and statistical probabilities. The program is used by several NBA and college teams.
