WCCO Viewers' Choice For MN's Best Tattoo Shop

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's not something reserved for sailors and bikers anymore. These days, more and more people are getting tattoos.

So we wanted to know: Where's the Best Tattoo Shop in Minnesota?

Thousands of you voted and sent me to get some ink at Olde Town Tattoo in St. Cloud.

If you're picturing a dark and seedy setting for this story, Olde Town Tattoo just doesn't fit that image.

"I'm an upbeat person, I'm an optimistic person," said Scotty Munster, the shop's owner. "So, I just wanted a shop that was very comfortable and you feel kinda like you're at home."

This does feel like home, or like the office of a doctor with a quirky taste for art.

"Women in the medical field are one of our biggest demographics for tattoos," Munster said. "Yeah, just nurses, they go crazy for this stuff."

Either way, the shop is a reflection of its owner.

Munster bought the shop when the owner of Rising Phoenix called and offered to sell him Central Minnesota's oldest tattoo parlor.

"The timing wasn't good for me," Munster said, "I just had a little girl, and, you know, money is tied up there, but we made it happen, and I was able to continue the tradition here."

He changed the name to Olde Town and has done way more than keep the status quo.

In the last few years, the shop has become the go-to shop for Minnesota's pro-athletes.

"Nikola [Peković] was the first one I tattooed," Munster said. "Then another guy on the team, then another guy on the team, then a couple of Vikings players."

That was enough of an endorsement for me.

"If you get a good tattoo right away, you're hooked," Munster said. "Because you get this good tattoo, it just gives you more confidence."

Olde Town has six artists on staff and most are booked out more than a month.

Their rates are competitive. They charge $100 an hour.
