Authorities: Man Drowns In St. Croix River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a man disappeared under water in the St. Croix River Sunday night.

Washington County Sheriff's dispatch said rescue crews arrived at Point Douglas Beach in Hastings, Minn. around 5 p.m.

According to officials, Juan Gabriel Diaz, 40, swam out to the buoy line at the beach.

The beach was not staffed with a life guard at the time.

Witnesses told police that Diaz began calling for help and went under water.

Officials recovered Diaz's around 7 p.m.

According to rescue crews, the Diaz had drowned.

It is unclear what caused him to go under the water.

No other information is being released.
