Benefit For Playground Honoring Schaffhausen Sisters Is July 19

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Three River Falls, Wis., sisters killed by their father in April of 2012 are being remembered by a playground in the community they grew up in.

Next weekend, organizers are putting together a fun run in memory of Sophie, Cecilia and Amara Schaffhausen. The three girls were killed by Aaron Schaffhausen two years ago, and in the last year their mother, Jessica, has remarried and has a new baby girl she named Trinity Hope.

Part of Jessica's healing process has been planning a memorial playground honoring the three girls. So far, organizers have raised about $300,000 for the Tri-Angels Playground that will be built in River Falls, but they still need about $200,000 more.

Jessica said it's been a way to stay busy and focus on the future.

"It reinforces my belief that the world over is filled with more good people than bad people," she said.

The Tri-Angels 5K Fun Run/Walk will be next Saturday, July 19. The cost to register before the event is $30 for adults and $10 for children 14 and younger. Race day registration is $35 for adults and $15 for children. Participants are guaranteed a T-shirt and there will be a concert after the run with vendors, concessions and a therapeutic massage at Hoffman Park.

Aaron Schaffhausen, who admitted to killing the three girls, is in jail serving three consecutive life sentences for murder.
