MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police said a woman died after being hit by a car Thursday night in the west Twin Cities metro and the driver is in custody as alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.

Orono Police were called at about 8:30 p.m. to a personal injury accident on the 2600 block of Arcola Lane in the city of Minnetonka Beach. When officers arrived, a female was injured after having been hit by a car. The woman was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center, where she later died.

The name of the victim has not been released, but authorities said she was 57 years old.

A 57-year-old man from Minnetonka Beach, identified by authorities as David Christopher Meder, was taken into custody and booked into the Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation resulting in a death. What led up to the accident is still under investigation, but authorities said it appears that alcohol may have been a factor.
