MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 55-year-old Sauk Rapids man suffered serious injuries Wednesday evening after being hit by a train.

The incident happened in Sauk Rapids at around 5 p.m. at the railroad crossing at 1945 Benton Drive, the local police department said.

The man was hit while following another person in walking across the tracks after the crossing arm had come down.

Emergency crews treated the man at the scene and brought him to St. Cloud Hospital.

The train involved was a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train, police say.
