MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 55-year-old man seriously injured by a train in central Minnesota Wednesday has been identified.

The incident happened in Sauk Rapids at around 5 p.m. at the railroad crossing at 1945 Benton Drive, the local police department said.

The man was hit while following another person in walking across the tracks after the crossing arm had come down. Emergency crews treated the man at the scene and brought him to St. Cloud Hospital.

On Thursday, the victim was identified as Kevin Mitchell Olson of St. Cloud.

The train involved was a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train. It was going at about 57 mph when it struck the victim, police said.
