MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Pope County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating after a man was found dead from a gunshot wound in Gilchrist Township.

At 11:24 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a 911 call about a person who had been shot inside a rural Pope County residence. When they arrived, deputies located a distraught female witness outside of the home and the deceased man inside the home. Investigators believe both individuals live in the home.

Authorities are now conducting interviews with the female witness as well as any other possible witnesses.

Investigators do not believe there is a risk to the public.

The man’s body will be taken to the Anoka County Medical Examiner for autopsy and formal identification.
