MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A St. Paul woman was injured Sunday when a Jet Ski exploded on the St. Croix River, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, police responded to a call just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday of a Jet Ski accident on the St. Croix River.

Fifty-year-old Scott Czaplewski, of Eagan, Minn., was traveling northbound on the river in the Jet Ski with Montez as his passenger.

When it began malfunctioning, Czaplewski refueled.

However, when Czaplewski tried to restart the machine after refueling  it exploded, throwing him and Montez off, police said.

Czaplewski was uninjured.

Montez was taken to River Falls Area Hospital to treat injuries she sustained after landing.

The accident is still under investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
