Cindy McCain Talks Sex Trafficking In Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The wife of former Republican presidential candidate John McCain spoke at the Minneapolis Convention Center Wednesday morning.

Cindy McCain and Sen. Amy Klobuchar talked to state lawmakers from around the country about sex trafficking.

Klobuchar has introduced bipartisan legislation modeled after Minnesota's "Safe Harbor" law, which makes sure minors sold for sex aren't prosecuted as defendants but are instead treated as victims.

"Eighty percent of the victims are from the U.S.," Klobuchar said, noting the common misconception that sex trafficking primarily affects people from other countries.  "They're right here at home, and we've had several high-profile prosecutions. So Cindy has come to see what we're doing in Minnesota that works."

Cindy McCain co-chairs the Arizona governor's Task Force on Human Trafficking.
