MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Last year, the Minnesota Lynx took the ultimate ride of champions down Nicollet Mall.

To the victors go the spoils, but are the Lynx a better team this year?

“It’s hard to tell,” said star guard Maya Moore, who won the league’s MVP award. “I haven’t really been thinking about last year’s team. I’ve been just trying to be as present and focused on this team as possible.”

It’s been a different path, she added.

That path continues Thursday night against a team they just lost to – San Antonio.

While the Stars are not as good as the Lynx, they are dangerous.

“I think every team that plays in the playoffs is dangerous,” said coach Cheryl Reeve. “San Antonio is an extremely well-coached team. It’s a team we know is going to be well prepared for us.”

The Lynx are not the number one seed this year, and that’s a change.

They’re also battle tested. Two key players — Rebekkah Brunson and Seimone Augustus – suffered injuries.

Brunson is back and says she’s near 100 percent after missing most of the season. Augustus has missed several games with a bad knee, but she believes the post season is its own cure.

“You don’t feel anything,” she said. “You just kind of lock in.”

Because of it all, the Lynx are not the favorite to win it again.

But that’s not how they see it.

“We still believe we are the team everyone wants to beat,” Reeve said.
