Isaac Kolstad Will Attend Mavericks' Home Opener

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - After a brush with death and months of treatment, Isaac Kolstad is expected to return to Mankato on Sept. 4 for the Mavericks' home opener.

The former Minnesota State University – Mankato football player suffered a head injury during an assault in Mankato in May and is currently being treated at a Twin Cities rehabilitative facility.

During the game against St. Cloud State University, the linebacker will help lead the team onto the field and serve as honorary captain, Minnesota State University athletic officials announced Thursday.

"His story of courage and commitment is one our players have rallied around and his presence will be a point of great inspiration as we kick off our season," head coach Todd Hoffner said in a statement.

Kolstad was assaulted in downtown Mankato on May 11.
