Flash Flood, Thunderstorm Warnings Posted

CHANHASSEN, Minn. (WCCO/AP) -- More strong thunderstorms are rolling across Minnesota, a day after heavy rain caused street flooding and hail wiped out an orchard's apple crop.

The National Weather Service posted a severe thunderstorm warning for Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Mille Lacs and Morrison counties early Thursday. A flash flood warning was in effect for portions of Becker, Clay, Otter Tail and Wilkin counties.

Meteorologist Matt Brickman said that wind gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour were reported to the west of Brainerd earlier this morning, and there are now reports of power lines down between Brainerd and Baxter.

The strong winds have also caused damage elsewhere, with trees reported down on Highway 210 and a roof blown from a building in Hewitt, according to meteorologist Mike Lynch.

The weather service says nearly 3 inches of rain fell at the St. Cloud Regional Airport on Wednesday. In western Minnesota, the city of Glenwood reported flooded roads with over a foot of water covering some roads.

Hail the size of half-dollars covered the ground 2-3 inches deep in Waverly, about 35 miles west of Minneapolis. The hail destroyed the apple crop at Untiedt's 25-acre orchard north of Waverly.
