Minn. Violence Shelter: Ray Rice Firing Sends 'A Strong Message'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- News that the Baltimore Ravens have fired Ray Rice -- after a video of him allegedly striking his then-fiancé surfaced -- is being hailed by those who are trying to stop domestic violence.

Jennifer Polzin is with the Tubman Center for Families in Minneapolis.

She says the move sends a strong message that violence against women won't be tolerated in the NFL or anywhere else.

"It's a bold move to the community at large, and to other players, other managers, other teams, that this won't be tolerated," Polzin said.

She says while there's been progress in the fight to stop domestic violence, there is still a long way to go.

"It's no longer regarded as a secret like it once was," she said.

She said if you or someone you know needs help, you can find out more at Tubman.org or the crisis hotline is 612-825-0000.
