MN Commerce Dept.: State Fairgoers Claim $715K In Missing Money

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Commerce says this year's Great Minnesota Get-Together was a huge success for consumers finding missing money.

On Unclaimed Property Day, $71,000 was found for fairgoers in one day and 10 times the amount -- $715,000 – was found over the entirety of the fair.

Fairgoers were able to look up records at the fair's Minnesota Department of Commerce booth. This year, 7,427 Minnesotans filed claims.

"The Department works hard to remind Minnesota consumers about unclaimed property and that although you may have checked once, it is important to check often for property for yourself and loved ones," said Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman. "It is our priority to make sure that the companies return money back to their customers in the first place, and if not, then the Commerce Department is here to help Minnesota consumers get their missing money back."

Over 150,000 unclaimed properties have recently been added to the department's website. Consumers can look up unclaimed property at any time. Click here to begin the process.
