1 Injured In Hubbard Co. Drag Racing Incident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man faces several charges in Hubbard Co. after a drag racing incident left one woman seriously injured.

Mitchell Lee Dirks was charged with six criminal counts, including criminal vehicle operation involving great bodily harm to another and several alcohol related charges.

According to the Hubbard County Attorney's Office, Dirks was involved in a drag racing incident on August 9.

While driving, Dirks went over 100 mph and lost control of the vehicle.

The car rolled several times and both he and his female passenger were ejected from the car.

Officials said the female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to a Twin Cities hospital.

Dirks provided a blood sample three to four hours after the accident. His BAC was 0.14 percent.

The driver of the car Dirks was racing left the scene before help arrived without notifying authorities, officials said.

Dirks next court appearance was set for Nov. 10, 2014.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office.
