Buses Replacing Blue Line Trains Following Derailment

MINNEAPOLIS (AP/WCCO) — Buses are operating in place of the Blue Line between the airport and the Mall of America after a train went off the tracks.

Metro Transit says the derailment happened Saturday afternoon. The middle car of a three-car train derailed near 30th Avenue.

There were no reports of injuries.

The trains were being replaced by buses on Sunday. Metro Transit officials say buses will run on a schedule similar to the trains, but could take longer.

On Sunday afternoon, Metro Transit said progress has been made in repairing the Blue Line and hopefully service will be restored overnight.

Buses will continue to replace trains between Terminal 2 at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Mall of America until rail service can be restored.
