Movie Blog: Manhattan Short (Global) Film Festival

No plans for Tuesday night? Then perhaps you'll be down to judge some short films in the world's only global film festival.

It's called the Manhattan Short Film Festival, and it's happening (locally) at Minneapolis' St. Anthony Main Theatre.

Interested? Here's what you're in for:

Attendees are asked to judge the 10 finalists from a group of nearly 600 films sent into from 47 countries. This year, two of the finalists are from the U.S., while the others are from England, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Norway and Australia. The films range in length from 17 minutes to 8 minutes.

(Disclosure: I haven't screened the films, so I can't tell you what you're in for. That said, it's probably fair to expect these 10 run the gamut. Some might be the work of up-and-coming talent, while others might be products of filmmakers who are capable, but not quite there yet. In any case, you can be the judge. That is, after all, what you're there to do.)

After the screening, you'll be asked to write down on a card which film and actor/actress you thought were the best. Those cards will then be sent to the festival headquarters, from which the winner will be announced next week.

The festival says that those going to the Minneapolis screening will be among some 100,000 festival-goers in 250 cities around the world.

This is the festival's 17th year. Learn more about it here.
