What Are This Year's Top Halloween Costumes?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's the first day of October, which means Halloween is now just around the corner. Don't have a costume idea yet? Not to worry -- a recent ranking just released may be able to help.

The National Retail Federation released its list of the top Halloween costumes on Monday.

Not much of a surprise, but they say to expect to see a lot of Elsas walking around, with the popularity of Disney's "Frozen."

The National Retail Federation's annual Halloween costume survey found an estimated 2.6 million children plan to dress up as a "Frozen" character.

Another costume that used to be popular that's making a comeback -- the Ninja Turtles. They estimate close to two million kids will be one of those characters.

But neither of those will top the old favorite -- Princess.

That's the No. 1 kids costume, followed by an animal of some kind, then Spiderman.

Frozen is fourth and Ninja Turtles are seventh, behind action heroes and Batman characters.

The survey found 75 million adults will dress up, and stick to fairly traditional costumes.

Witch is No. 1, followed by an animal at No. 2 then Batman, a pirate and a zombie.

And let's not forget about our furry friends. Fourteen percent of people say they plan to dress up their pet.

The top costumes for pets are pumpkin, hot dog, devil, bumble bee and a cat.
