State Patrol: 1 Dead, 1 Hurt In Head-On Crash Near Kimball

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person is dead and another was seriously hurt in a head-on crash near Kimball Thursday morning.

Authorities were called to the area of Highway 15 and 150th Street, just north of Kimball, at about 5:54 a.m. on a report of a head-on crash. When officers arrived, they found a 2001 Mercury Marquis and a 1996 Dodge Caravan that had collided head-on while traveling on Highway 15. Authorities said the Dodge Caravan was heading northbound on Highway 15 and moved into the southbound lane to pass another car.

The Mercury Marquis was coming southbound on Highway 15 and hit the Mercury head-on. As a result of the collision, the Dodge Caravan veered off to the right, went into the ditch and rolled over, resting on its roof. Authorities said the driver of the van was helped out of the vehicle by Good Samaritans before the van caught fire. The driver, a 22-year-old man from Fort Atkinson, Wis., was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Mercury Marquis, a 37-year-old St. Cloud woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Stearns Count Sheriff's Office and the Kimball Police Department.
